My primary duties include:
- I will be assigned to two or more public high schools in a small or medium-sized town to teach an entrepreneurship education course. Work with at least three sections of 50 or more students, ultimately having student groups take part in national business competitions.
- Expected to identify business owners in my community to inspire and help them manage their business more efficiently. I will provide technical assistance in basic business management concepts such as the use of cash flow, accounting and inventory systems, establishing costs and prices, marketing strategy, etc.
- As a means to promote income generating activities, I will establish community banks that will provide savings and loan programs. This will also be used to raise awareness on the importance of good financial management habits and improve personal finances.
- Design and deliver trainings on business development and planning skills, organizational development, conflict resolution and group development, among others.
- Assigned to work with a governmental or non-governmental organization to strengthen their ability to provide better services to their clients.
My secondary projects are essentially what I'll be doing when I'm not teaching or helping local businesses. These projects are a way for me to combine my skills and interests with those of the local community. I am OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS. Previous volunteers have done things like participating/promoting sports activities (insert joke here), creating environment education projects, teach english as a foreign language, teach community business classes, etc...
Work hours?
I'm officially "on duty" 24 hours a day all year round. Nicaraguan school year is from February through November meeting from 7am to 12pm. Working with local businesses and NGO's depends on their business hours and availability, but usually consist of scattered hours Mon-Fri.
